Case Asu: dynamic with volumetric effects in minimalist style
Key Cucine has been working in synergy with architectural studios for years, creating kitchens for projects of great prestige. One of the most recent collaborations is with Spanish firm Ramos Bilbao, located in Durango, in the Basque Country. The architects, who specialise in single-family dwellings, asked Key Cucine to partner them in the design of the extremely particular “Case Asu”.
The homes have been built in a privileged enclave in Sopela, on the northern coast of Spain, near Bilbao, with the aim of creating a residential space with forms that could fit harmoniously into the surrounding countryside.
The terrain in this area in fact presents significant unevenness that, thanks to the architects’ expert designs, has been inserted into the volumetric effects of the whole composition, adding dynamism and lightness to the whole structure.
The effects have been created using volumes that contrast with the apparently cold, minimalist architecture, adding a refined, elegant charm to the whole project.
The way in which the Case Asu relates to nature is of fundamental importance: the soft and particularly welcoming finishes have been purposefully chosen to evoke the typical elements of the Spanish coastal landscape. Light too is a major feature: it penetrates into the homes in such a way as to make them naturally light and airy, thanks to a series of alcoves and cavities fitted into the walls.
The base of the house is in natural lime stone, cut into blocks, and serves to insulate the living areas from the ground. Sprayed cork has been used for the full height of the walls, for its flexible, fireproof qualities. In terms of colour, the pristine white surfaces enhance the volumetric effects of the forms.
The style and taste of the exterior walls are picked up in the living areas: minimalism is the feature that all spaces have in common, thanks to the simple lines of the furnishings and the use of monochrome. The kitchen, by Key, picks up on these very features: the Veneto-based company's skill in creating bespoke layouts has been fundamentally important in realising an area that could blend seamlessly with the rest of the spaces. The minimalist furnishings conceal a functional alcove inside the large cabinets, with a large worktop alongside a central island.
A project with great technical depth and an appreciable aesthetic, thanks to the important effect created by the contrasts: the minimalism of the exteriors is matched by a complex, articulated interior.
